'Illinois Corn Flake' returns to eBay

Published: March 19, 2008 at 6:59 PM
CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 19 (UPI) -- Two Chesapeake, Va., sisters whose eBay auction for the "Great Illinois Corn Flake" was pulled by the auction site said the item is back on sale.

Emily McIntire, 15, and her sister Melissa, 23, said the item, a piece of Kellogg's Frosted Flakes cereal resembling the shape of Illinois, can once again be obtained via eBay, but with a slight variation to appease the Web site's regulations, the Newport News (Va.) Daily Press reported Wednesday.

Instead of directly offering the flake, which violates eBay's policy against selling food items, the new auction is for a coupon the winning bidder can exchange for the state-shaped snack.

"The Great Illinois Corn Flake," as the item as been dubbed, has spawned a line of imitators -- including cereal pieces that resemble Ireland and Indiana and a potato chip that purportedly also bears the shape of Illinois.
