PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., March 14 (UPI) --
Two would-be teen-age thieves picked the one place guaranteed to have police protection -- the police station at Port St. Lucie, Fla., officials said.
The boys, ages 12 and 14, were accused of attempting to rob the station, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported.
Police spokesman Rob Vega said the 14-year-old also was charged with violating his probation.
The boys walked into a regional station the Port St. Lucie Police Department, demanding money, Vega said. Hiding one hand in his jacket as if he held a gun, the 12-year-old picked up a telephone handset and ordered an aide behind a glass enclosure to put up her hands and hand over all her money, Vega said.
About a half a dozen officers, finishing defensive tactics training, heard what was happening and ran into the lobby, Vega said.
"They didn't show any signs of remorse whatsoever," said Vega. "To them, the entire incident was a big joke."© 2008 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
