THESSALONIKI, Greece, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Greek police said they captured an ostrich that had been spotted walking on a highway outside the city of Thessaloniki.

Police said they managed to rope the wandering ostrich, whose origins were unknown, before its presence could lead to any traffic collisions, Ekathimerini.com reported Thursday.

Motorists phoned police at about 2 a.m. Wednesday to report the large bird walking around on the Thessaloniki-Nea Michaniona road, authorities said. The ostrich iwas being cared for by a local roadside assistance company until its owner could be found.
