Canadian man shocked by big phone bill

CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A Canadian man who used his cell phone to surf the Internet says he was surprised when he got a phone bill for nearly $85,000.

Piotr Staniaszek, 22, of Calgary says Bell Mobility didn't tell him using his Motorola Krzr cellphone to connect his compute to the Internet would carry such a hefty price, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Wednesday.

"I didn't know what to think. I thought there was probably a mistake," said Staniaszek, who was used to paying $10 a month for unlimited mobile browsing on his phone. "So I figured that was the same thing, but I guess not."

Company spokesman Jacques Bouchard said Staniaszek's bill will be reduced by about $80,000 as a "measure of goodwill," the network reported.

Staniaszek contends Bell Mobility should have alerted him his bill was skyrocketing.

"The thing is, they've cut my phone off for being like $100 over. Here, I'm $85,000 over and nobody bothered to give me a call and tell me what was going on," he told CBC.

Bouchard said the company doesn't have the capability to monitor each customer's activity.
