CALCUTTA, India, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Police in India forced a man to eat 50 bananas as a laxative after he was accused of stealing a necklace and then swallowing it.

After the bananas did not work as intended, police fed Sheikh Moshin rice, chicken and bread, the BBC reported.

The necklace, which had appeared on an X-ray, finally was excreted and retrieved.

Moshin was accused of stealing the $1,100 necklace from a woman as she shopped for toys. He is set to appear in court Monday in Calcutta and could face a prison sentence, the BBC reported.
