Organ donor? Save money on your funeral

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, May 18 (UPI) -- People who are registered organ donors can save on their own funeral costs thanks to a new promotion from a funeral company in the Netherlands.

Expatica reported Friday that Monuta Funeral Care and Insurance in Amsterdam has begun offering its customers more than $200 off when the deceased was a registered organ donor.

A company representative said the unusual offer was prompted by the Kidney Foundation's recent call for financial incentives to be used to increase organ donations.

"A financial incentive of ($202) doesn't solve the problem, but it might give people a little push," Monuta representative Paul Debets said.

Expatica said the Netherlands' Ministry of Welfare, Health and Culture is set to look into the funerary offer to see if it violates the nation's laws regarding organ donations.
