BUCHAREST, Romania, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A 67-year-old Romanian woman who is seven months pregnant with twin girls is due to become the oldest recorded mother.

Adriana Iliescu, an author and academic, conceived after undergoing fertility treatment, the BBC reported Wednesday.

Iliescu told local television that she had always wanted to be a mother but had been unable to conceive naturally.

She said that since her family has a history of longevity, she is not worried about becoming a mother at her age.

In April 2003 a 65-year-old Indian woman gave birth to a boy, her first child after being married for 50 years.

Satyabhama Mahapatra, a retired schoolteacher from Orissa state, gave birth after being impregnated with an egg from her 26-year-old niece that had been fertilized by the niece's husband.
