HOUSTON, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A Grinch has already stolen next Christmas for some poor kids in the Houston area.

Police report $10,000 worth of toys were stolen from a mini-storage unit in Alvin, the Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.

Carolyn Ewing, the head of Project Love - Santa's Angels, said 400 wrapped gifts were stored in the unit. She said she was "devastated" to discover the theft Wednesday.

"I became hysterical. I must have just cried for 30 minutes. I just feel violated," she said.

Alvin Police Chief Mike Merkel said the break-in might be linked to two other burglaries of storage units this month.

The toys were left over from a party the group had hosted for more than 270 needy families at Six Flags AstroWorld.

"There was everything," she said. "Dolls, electronic games."
