A survey of 575 singles by the online dating service Match.com finds 46 percent expect a kiss from just one person on New Year's Eve.
Another 14 percent plan to grab smooches from numerous people and men were more likely than women to expect to kiss more than one person.
Singles living on the West Coast were the most likely to say they expect at least one kiss at the stroke of midnight.
Twenty-eight percent of singles in the survey admit being dateless on New Year's Eve is worse than being single and without a date on any other holiday.
SELF DUI TEST
Phoenix-based CSK Auto Inc., which has some 1,100 Checker, Schuck's and Kragen auto parts stores, is promoting the "Guardian Angel" do-it-yourself blood alcohol test kit.
The kits are sold in the auto stores and the company is giving them away to law enforcement organizations in its major metro markets, including Denver, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
CSK President Martin Fraser says law enforcement officials will be able to distribute the test strips free to citizens to encourage responsible driving on New Year's Eve.
The test comes in a credit card-sized pack that holds four test strips and costs less than $2. To test your blood alcohol level, you must wait 10 minutes after eating, drinking or smoking, then place a test strip on your tongue for two minutes. The strip changes to a color that is matched to a chart on the package, indicating a high, medium or moderate level of alcohol in the blood.
WATCHING THOSE CALORIES BURN
The BodyGem by HealtheTech is a metabolism measurement tool that can tell you in minutes how many calories you can eat and still lose weight.
By breathing into the handheld device for five to 10 minutes, you can know precisely how many calories your body burns in a day -- and can use it as the basis for your weight loss plan.
"By giving people tools that give them personalized information conveniently and easily, we are empowering them to take control of their weight loss problem and own the solution," said Dr. James Mault, chairman of HealtheTech.
The universal fuel of metabolism is oxygen so BodyGem measures the amount of oxygen your body uses to tell you how many calories your body is burning.
CLEAN UP BEATS FIX UP IN SURVEY
Cleaning up the joint beat out new wall paper and even tearing down the walls in a survey on New Year's resolutions for sprucing up the home.
Keeping the house cleaner won the vote of 28 percent of survey respondents, compared with 18 percent who opted for remodeling and 14 percent who chose renovation, according to the Soap and Detergent Association's latest National Cleaning Survey.
About 48 percent said they don't keep clean their homes because they can't find the time to clean. No surprise there.
"Time is a precious commodity for so many individuals and families. We often put off simple tasks like cleaning, which we tell ourselves we can do later, but later never comes," said SDA Vice President of Communication Brian Sansoni.
