Moms: Managing career easier than family

Published: May 9, 2008 at 5:30 PM
MELVILLE, N.Y., May 9 (UPI) -- Working mothers say managing their career is a piece of cake next to their managing family, a U.S. survey indicates.

Seventy-one percent of working mothers who responded to the poll said they find it more difficult to manage their family compared to 29 percent who say it is difficult to manage their career, said the Adecco USA Workplace Insight survey, conducted by Harris Interactive.

The survey of 2,138 adults conducted April 21-23 says that 71 percent of working moms are just as likely as non-parents -- 73 percent -- to work late and respond to e-mail after hours, even though 32 percent of all workers would be less inclined to ask a working parent -- male or female -- to do so.

Even though they're willing to burn the midnight oil with the rest of their colleagues, 49 percent of mothers said they think their companies should do more to help them achieve better work/life balance.
