LONDON, May 17 (UPI) -- Amy Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, bears responsibility for the British singer's alleged ongoing problems with drugs, Winehouse's mother maintains.

Janis Winehouse said prior to meeting Fielder-Civil, her daughter never used any of the hard drugs she has since earned media notoriety for allegedly using, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

"Don't get me wrong: I know she dabbled in drugs before. I was aware of her smoking dope in her teens," the elder Winehouse said. "But she was always adamant that she would never touch the hard stuff, that she didn't need it. That all changed when she met Blake."

The couple's one-year anniversary takes place Sunday.

The 53-year-old mother also downplayed recent reports of the "Rehab" star's partying lifestyle, including recent photographs allegedly showing Winehouse smoking crack cocaine, the Telegraph reported.

"I don't think she's totally lost control. She's a girl who lives on the edge; she toys with it," she said.

"But she has an awareness of it, too -- and that will save her in the end."
