LOS ANGELES, May 15 (UPI) -- Dolly Parton says she was shocked that U.S. radio shock jock Howard Stern cobbled together soundbites to make it seem like she was making offensive remarks.

The country music star said on her Web site she had "never been so shocked, hurt and humiliated" as she was by Stern's stunt, which made it appear as though Parton was making raunchy and racist remarks.

The Los Angeles Times said Stern has similarly re-edited quotes from celebrities like William Shatner and Oprah Winfrey as a joke.

"In a blue million years, I would never have such vulgar things come out of my mouth. They have done editing or some sort of trickery to make this horrible, horrible thing. Please accept my apology for them and certainly know I had nothing to do with this," the Times quoted Parton as saying on her Web site. "If there was ever going to be a lawsuit, it's going to be over this. Just wanted you to know that I am completely devastated by this."
