LOS ANGELES, May 1 (UPI) -- The U.S. rock band OneRepublic says it was forced to cancel several tour dates after lead singer Ryan Tedder had surgery on his Achilles tendon.

Tedder last week suffered a serious tear to the tendon that required immediate surgery, Interscope Records said Thursday.

Concert dates through May 8 have subsequently been canceled or postponed.

The singer is resting comfortably after the surgery and is expected to be back on his feet in a few weeks, the band's record label said.

"I want to apologize to all of our fans holding tickets to the canceled shows," Tedder said in a statement. "We hope to reschedule shows in these areas as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone for the get well soon messages too! I'm looking forward to being back on stage as soon as possible."
