LOS ANGELES, March 14 (UPI) -- Authorities in India canceled an arrest warrant for U.S. actor Richard Gere, who was cleared of obscenity charges for kissing a Bollywood actress in public.
Gere sparked outrage in India when he kissed Shilpa Shetty at an AIDS awareness event in the country last year.
He apologized the for the incident, but a warrant for his arrest was issued on the grounds he violated India's public obscenity laws.
Usmagazine.com said Friday Gere's lawyers appealed to the court to have the warrant dropped.
A two-judge bench, headed by the Chief Justice of India, K.G. Balakrishnan, has since deemed the charge against the actor "frivolous," the report said.
"Richard Gere is free to enter the country," Balakrishnan said. "This is the end of the matter."
Report: McCartney to pay Mills nearly $50M
LONDON, March 14 (UPI) -- British rock 'n' roll great and former Beatle Paul McCartney reportedly will pay wife Heather Mills nearly $50 million as part of their divorce settlement.
The Daily Mail Friday reported details of the settlement are contained in a preliminary London High Court judgment sent to the former couple and their lawyers this week.
The official decision is expected to be handed down Monday.
McCartney and Mills were married for four years, split up in 2006 and have a 4-year-old daughter together.
The couple was not able to reach a divorce settlement last month and so a decision regarding the division of their assets was to be made by a judge. The divorce hearings were held in private.
McCartney is said to be worth about $1.6 billion.

LOS ANGELES, March 14 (UPI) -- British actress Minnie Driver revealed on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" that she is pregnant with her first child.
Driver, however, did not reveal the father's name during her Thursday appearance on the show, People.com said.
The 38-year-old actress, who is best known for her roles in "Circle of Friends," "Good Will Hunting" and "The Phantom of the Opera," can now be seen on the FX series "The Riches."
The actress broke the news of her pregnancy after Leno teased her about gaining weight because she was spending too much time at buffets.
"Are you calling me fat? You've noticed my tummy, haven't you?" Driver challenged Leno, prompting him to ask if she is expecting.
"Yes, I am," she replied.
Driver said she is enjoying her pregnancy but having a tough time with morning sickness.
"I don't know why they call it morning sickness," she said. " I am sick morning, noon and night, but it's a fair trade-off."
