McCartney cashes in on Beatles' catalog

LONDON, March 8 (UPI) -- British singer Paul McCartney has reached a $400 million agreement with iTunes for the distribution of the Beatles' back catalog.

The former Beatles star, who is currently mired in a bitter divorce, officially sanctioned the Internet download service to offer the band's musical hits from albums such as "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," the Daily Mail said Saturday.

McCartney will not be the only one enjoying the profitable deal. Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will receive a portion of the profits, as will the families of late Beatles stars George Harrison and John Lennon.

Portions of the multimillion-dollar payout also will go to pop singer Michael Jackson, along with the EMI and Sony recording groups, who each own certain Beatles recording or publishing rights.

The Daily Mail said the deal could directly impact McCartney's ongoing divorce from Heather Mills as the former model may increase her settlement request to include a portion of the singer's newfound fortune.

Zeta-Jones stylish at New York opening

NEW YORK, March 8 (UPI) -- Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones reportedly showed off her impeccable sense of style at the opening of a new cosmetics store in New York.

The 38-year-old actress appeared for the recent opening of the New York flagship store of cosmetics mogul Elizabeth Arden (NASDAQ:RDEN) wearing a stylish cocktail dress and diamante-embellished stilettos, the Daily Mail reported Saturday.

The appearance was part of Zeta-Jones' role as the spokeswoman for the fashion empire, but the actress revealed she also had a personal interest in helping open the New York store.

"I'm a stockholder, not just the face," the "Chicago" star said.

Zeta-Jones also spoke of her recent proclamation she would no longer go nude in her movies, citing her advancing age.

"I think it's just a natural progression," the mother of two said. "I'm 38 years old and I'm going to play more mums than sex symbols."

Clubbing focus of Lohan's sisterly advice

LOS ANGELES, March 8 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan had one simple piece of advice for her younger sister and aspiring singer Ali: "Stay away from the clubs!"

The elder Lohan, whose partying lifestyle has led to multiple rehabilitation efforts and two drunken driving arrests, used a recent interview to offer her 14-year-old sister advice on being a celebrity, USmagazine.com reported Friday.

The "Mean Girls" star said in addition to avoiding the clubbing lifestyle, her sister should do her best to "keep her head on straight" as her fame increases.

The cautionary words from Lohan come in the wake of Ali's highly publicized comment: "I want (to be famous) so bad."

Lohan, meanwhile, is preparing to unveil a new album she says has more of a dance feel than her previous musical efforts.

USmagazine.com said the singer-actress also is to make a movie with comedian Jack Black and actress Ann-Margret, a dream come true for Lohan.

"I'm very excited!" Lohan said of working with the award-winning actress. "I just really respect her."

Walters: Toilet interrupted Cyrus visit

NEW YORK, March 8 (UPI) -- "The View" co-host Barbara Walters said her recent visit to the family home of U.S. pop singer Miley Cyrus was interrupted by an overflowing toilet.

Walters said that the visit, which was to be part of her televised Oscar special, started off on the wrong foot when the Cyrus family's toilet overflowed and the malfunction led to additional plumbing mishaps, People magazine reported Friday.

"The day that we got there, the toilet in their house overflowed," Walters said.

"When one overflowed, the whole plumbing system went wrong in the house, and all the toilets overflowed."

Walters said the "Hannah Montana" singer and her family were understanding about the incident, despite the fact Walters' large crew of workers may have been to blame.

People said the singer's family presented Walters with a golden figurine in the shape of a toilet bowl complete with the inscription: "So you'll always remember the Cyrus family."
