CHICAGO, Feb. 10 (UPI) --
Noted Chicago sportscaster Chet Coppock has been suspended by ESPN Radio for making an anti-Semitic comment while on the air.
The incident began when the veteran WMVP-AM 1000 personality was asked to spell the word "Jewish" during his Feb. 2 show on the Chicago radio station, the Chicago Tribune said Friday.
"Money, M-O-N-E-Y," was Coppock's on-air response to the question.
WMVP General Manager Jim Pastor said the sportscaster's comment was not acceptable and suspended Coppock until Feb. 23.
"We're extremely sorry," Pastor said. "The comment was offensive and uncalled for. We do not tolerate this kind of behavior from any of our hosts."
Coppock, who mainly works weekend shifts at the Chicago radio station, also issued a statement in which he apologized.
"I made an offensive comment I truly regret," that statement read. "It doesn't reflect my views or those of WMVP. I sincerely apologize."
