SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- More than 3 million copies of "3:10 to Yuma" have been sold in the United States and Canada since the celebrated western was released on DVD last week.

Starring Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Peter Fonda and Ben Foster, the gritty remake debuted at No. 1 on the DVD and high-definition charts, said Lionsgate, the independent film studio that released the film.

"With its star power and critical acclaim, '3:10 to Yuma' is just the type of release we envisioned as being a success in our 'fifth quarter,' leading up to the awards season," Ron Schwartz, Lionsgate Home Entertainment general manager and executive vice president, said in a statement.

"Holding major releases like 'War,' '3:10 to Yuma,' 'Good Luck Chuck,' and 'Saw IV' until after the holidays has given us a strong reputation with retailers and consumers for delivering a diverse, high-profile slate of titles for buyers to purchase with their holiday gift cards."
