LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- NBC may decide not to televise the Golden Globe Awards, which would allow the event to take place on schedule despite the Hollywood writers' strike.

The network faced the possibility of televising the awards ceremony Jan. 13 but without the normal array of box-office stars viewers expect to see on Hollywood awards shows. The Screen Actors Guild said Friday its members will not cross a Writers Guild of America picket line to attend the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The WGA has been on strike against producers since Nov. 5 and has vowed to picket the Golden Globes gala if it is produced by Dick Clark Productions, a struck company, and broadcast on NBC, a struck network.

NBC had not made an official statement Sunday, Daily Variety reported, but industry sources told the trade newspaper NBC appeared to be backing away from plans to televise the awards even if stars don't attend.

WGA officials have said the guild would not picket the Golden Globe Awards if the event is not televised.
