LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Akon won the prize for favorite soul/rhythm and blues male artist at the 2007 American Music Awards show in Los Angeles Sunday.

Although he beat out Ne-Yo and T-Pain for the honor, Akon brought T-Pain onstage and told the crowd: "I think T-Pain deserves it more than I do.

"No, seriously, if you knew the work this kid puts in. I jus t..." Akon said, his voice trailing off as T-Pain touched the statuette Akon was holding.

"I'm just gonna go ahead and take it because he don't have no more room on top of his TV," T-Pain said. "He's got enough awards, so I'm going to go ahead and let him walk off the stage with it and then I'm gonna take it home. I appreciate it."
