DVD raid goes to the dogs

NEW YORK, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Three New Yorkers accused of DVD piracy were no match for two black Labradors who sniffed out the sham discs, leaving the men to lick their proverbial wounds.
Flo and Lucky, the 3 1/2-year-old labs who nosed out the boxes of bootleg CDs in raids at three stores in Queens, are so good at their jobs they have a price on their heads, the New York Post reported Thursday.
The dogs belong to the Motion Picture Association of America and are traveling the world to bust DVD pirates. MPAA's John Malcolm said their success in Malaysia led counterfeiters to put out $6 million worth of contracts on the dogs' lives.
"Yesterday's raids were unique," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
The dogs don't actually smell a fake because all DVDs smell alike, the newspaper said. They find discs hidden in other materials by sniffing for polycarbonate or other chemicals.
After their crime-fighting stop in New York, Lucky and Flo travel to Canada.
