LOS ANGELES, July 29 (UPI) -- "The Simpsons Movie," the long-awaited film treatment of the long-running animated TV series, zoomed into first place in U.S. movie theaters this weekend.

The Matt Groening-created Simpson movie garnered an estimated $71.85 million in ticket sales in its opening weekend, Box Office Mojo reported Sunday.

That pushed "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" down into the No. 2 spot with $19.06 million in sales, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" into third at $17.07 million and "Hairspray" to fourth with $15.55 million in ticket purchases.

Debuting at No. 5 was "No Reservations," a romantic comedy set in a fictitious New York restaurant, with $11.755 million in sales.

In the 6-8 spots were "Transformers," $11.52 million; "Ratatouille," $7.23 million; and "Live Free or Die Hard," $5.35 million.

Rounding out the Top 10 were two more new flicks, the Lindsay Lohan thriller "I know Who Killed Me," $3.4 million, and "Who's Your Caddy," a "Caddyshack" rip-off that pulled in $2.9 million.

Eliminated from the top tier this week were "License to Wed," "1408," "Evan Almighty" and "Knocked Up.
