Roseanne Barr riles gays

LAS VEGAS, April 16 (UPI) -- Roseanne Barr called in sick for a weekend appearance at a gay Las Vegas nightclub on the heels of saying gay activists are only concerned about themselves.

The comic-talk show host was scheduled to appear at Krave on Saturday, but nightclub host Larry Edwards said Barr canceled via a message through her co-star and drag queen Jackie Beat because she wasn't feeling well, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Barr, who has two gay siblings, had complained to lesbian activist Jasmyne Cannick on her radio show last week that she has never heard gay leaders say "one thing about anything that was not about them."

"They don't care about minimum wage, they don't care about any other group other than their own self because you know, some people say being gay and lesbian is a totally narcissistic thing, and sometimes I wonder," Barr said.

Her comments drew the wrath of Chuck Wolfe, president of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund in Washington, who said Barr defamed gay political and community leaders "who go to work every day to improve schools, make streets safer and better their communities."
