NEW YORK, April 19 (UPI) --
The mother of slain rap star Tupac Shakur plans to release one final album and upgrade a Georgia camp for troubled children to keep her son's memory alive.
The 25-year-old Shakur was shot at the height of his popularity in Las Vegas and died Sept. 13, 1996.
Since then his mother Afeni Shakur, a former Black Panther and recovering drug addict, has held annual memorials.
The efforts include albums of the rapper's unreleased work. One final album is set for release next year.
Shakur's mother also plans to renovate a Stone Mountain, Ga., performing arts camp to help the next generation of children from troubled homes.
"When Tupac was 13 and I was homeless, Tupac was in the 127th Street Ensemble right here in New York," his mother told MTV.com. "Those people, I believe, saved his life."
Afeni Shakur also is working on a film and a play about her son's life, which is profiled in a biography to be published later this year.© 2005 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
