LOS ANGELES, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- As Los Angeles welcomes its new concert hall with its third inaugural set of performances Saturday night, critics are raving about the new landmark.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall cost $274 millionand was designed by famed architect Frank Gehry with acoustics designed by Yasuhisa Toyota, The San Diego Union reported.

Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Adams compared the new edifice to the Eiffel Tower, saying it is a landmark spectacular enough to be the Los Angeles equivalent.

The new home for the Los Angeles Philharmonic replaces a widely criticized Dorothy Chandler Pavilion where performances were described as paddling in muddy water.

The new hall is smaller than the old pavilion, however, seating about 800 fewer people at 2,265.

The tickets to the three inaugural performances cost $1,500 to $5,000.

There have been a few protestors as well, carrying signs, "For the rich, overabundant opulence" and "For the poor, the boot."
