The figure was a decline from the 1.1 percent price rise producers experienced in March.
In April, prices for producers of intermediate goods rose 0.9 percent, following a 2.3 percent gain in March.
Prices for producers of crude goods rose 3.2 percent after an 8 percent climb in March.
The core finished goods index, excluding energy and food prices, climbed 0.4 percent in April.
Producer prices for light trucks, pharmaceutical preparation and household furniture rose in April, while prices for communication equipment and book publishing declined.
Jet fuel prices pushed the intermediate goods figure, rising 6.8 percent in April after a 10.2 percent jump in March.
The prices producers paid for durable goods moved up 1.9 percent in April, after a 3.8 percent jump in March, the report said.
