WASHINGTON, April 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Commerce Department said Monday estimates of U.S. retail and food service sales for March gained slightly from the previous month.

The $381.4 billion total was a 0.2 percent increase from February, when the tally stood at $380.2 billion.

Analysts had predicted no change for the month.

Gasoline sales were 18.9 percent higher than in March 2007 and non-store retail sales rose 8.7 percent for the year, the report said.
