WASHINGTON, April 8 (UPI) --
Retail sales in the United States increased 0.7 percent for the week ended April 5, the International Council of Shopping Centers-USB reported Tuesday.
The increase is a turnaround from two weeks of declines. Last week, retail sales dropped 0.2 percent. The previous week, sales fell by 0.4 percent.
On a year-over-year basis sales on the week grew by "a very sluggish 0.3 percent," the report said.
The weather throughout the country was "neutral" on the week, but shoppers were discouraged by the price of gasoline which averaged $3.332 per gallon in the United States, the report said.© 2008 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
