WASHINGTON, April 1 (UPI) --
Retail sales in the United States decreased 0.2 percent for the week ended March 29, the International Council of Shopping Centers-USB reported Tuesday.
It is the second consecutive week the figure has dropped. Last week, sales fell by 0.4 percent.
On a year-over-year basis sales on the week grew by 0.5 percent, "the weakest reading since April 5, 2003," the report said.
Retailers worried clothing sales associated with Easter -- and spring weather -- were down due to the early Easter date this year, the report said.© 2008 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
