CHICAGO, March 27 (UPI) --
The Help-Wanted Advertising Index fell a full point in February in the United States, the Conference Board said Thursday.
One year ago, the index stood at 30 -- the index for February 2008 was 21.
The index has declined for three consecutive months in seven of the country's nine regions, the report said.
In February, help-wanted ads declined most in the East South Central, Pacific and New England regions, while slight increases were noted in the West South Central and West North Central regions, the report said.
"More regions of the country are experiencing economic distress and the impact is now evident in the labor markets, the result of constant, unrelenting pressure from multiple sources, said Conference Board labor economist Ken Goldstein.
"There's been very little profit growth, and virtually no job growth in the past three months," he said, predicting "virtually no chance of improvement over the next few months."© 2008 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
