Chinese-made rocker toys are recalled

Published: March 27, 2008 at 10:08 AM
WASHINGTON, March 27 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of about 122,000 Chinese-made Rock 'N Ride-brand plush rocker toys due to a safety hazard.

The CPSC said the toys, distributed by Tek Nek Toys International of Southlake, Texas, included a molded plastic rocker base that can become unstable, allowing the rocker to tip forward or backward, thereby posing a hazard for children.

Tek Nek Toys has received 35 reports of the rockers overturning, including 10 reports of injuries such as bumps, bruises and lacerations.

The toys were sold in eight models -- brown pony, pink pony, pink unicorn, deluxe pony, deluxe bull, lil' penguin, lil' propeller plane and Clifford big red rocker. A button on the toy's ear, hat or dash activates songs and phrases when pressed.

Rockers included in the recall have date codes between July 26, 2007, and Dec. 29, 2007. The date codes are printed on a sticker inside the battery compartment.

The rocker toys were sold nationwide and on the Internet from September 2007 through March 2008 for about $30.
