Chinese-made two-slice toasters recalled
Published: March 19, 2008 at 11:39 AM

WASHINGTON, March 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Chinese-manufactured electric toasters due to a safety hazard.

The CPSC said approximately 12,000 toasters distributed by Salton Inc. of Lake Forest, Ill., but sold under various brand names, might malfunction by turning on without bread in the slots, posing a fire hazard.

The recall involves two-slice chrome electric toasters sold under the Farberware (models FCT200 or FCT100), Hoffritz (models HZT2 and HZT2M) and Russell Hobbs (model RH2MT) brands. The brand name and model number are printed on a plate located on the underside of the toaster.

The toasters were sold nationwide from January 2000 through December 2007 for between $40 and $50.

Consumers can obtain refund instructions by contacting Salton at 800-233-9054. About 13,000 similar toasters were recalled by QVC in December.
