LOS ANGELES, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A trip on Los Angeles' eastbound I-91 express lanes at a certain time of day could be a costly venture – like, about $1 a mile -- starting next Friday.

The plan for a toll that can run as high as $10 is aimed at weeding out some of the heavy commuter traffic that clogs the interstate from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, convincing some folks to travel at a different time, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The toll is among the highest in the nation. Regular commuters who dodge the endless congestion on Riverside Freeway to take the express lanes are crying foul.
