PITTSBURGH, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- PPG Industries Inc. (NYSE:PPG)'s $500 million sale of its automotive glass business to private-equity firm Platinum Equity of Beverly Hills, Calif., may not be completed.

Pittsburgh-based PPG said Platinum Equity filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court arguing the firm had no obligation to go through with the deal, which would have affected 4,400 employees throughout the United States and in Canada.

The $500 deal was announced in September, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Thursday.

PPG indicated it would enforce its rights and continue to explore divestiture, restructuring and strategic alternatives if the deal is not consummated.
