Black & Decker toasters are recalled

Published: Dec. 5, 2007 at 1:05 PM
WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Wednesday announced a nationwide recall of about 70,000 Chinese-made Black & Decker toasters.

The CPSC said the voluntary recall of the Infrawave-brand toasters was initiated by the distributor -- Applica Consumer Products Inc. of Miramar, Fla. -- because a component can overheat, igniting the circuit board and posing a fire hazard.

The recalled two-slice toasters were sold at home improvement and discount department stores from March through November for about $50. The toasters are black with stainless steel trim and a digital display below the toaster lever. The model number ST2000 is printed on the bottom of the toaster.

Consumers with questions can contact Applica at 800-556-9439.
