NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- New York banking giant Citigroup Thursday announced it is giving $3 million to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Asia and Africa.

Of the total, $1 million will go to the Red Cross for first response measures, while another $1 million will go to local non-government organizations working to provide relief.

The remaining $1 million is earmarked for rebuilding the affected communities, Citigroup said.

The group said it is encouraging its employees to set up donation accounts, which will be matched by the company.
