PARSIPPANY, N.J., May 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command announced it has contracted DRS Technologies Inc. (NYSE:DRS) for tactical quiet generators.
Army CECOM, based at Fort Monmouth, N.J., awarded DRS with three contracts for the delivery of more than 2,300 five, 10 and 15-kilowatt TQG through the Army's Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communications Tactical. Officials say the TQGs will be used for various Army, Navy and Air Force operations.
DRS has worked with the U.S. military on the TQGs since their original development in 1997. "To date, DRS has manufactured more than 10,000 10-kilowatt TQGs for the military, and by the end of the year, will have produced more than 21,000 3-kilowatt units, as well," the release said.
Official say the work on the newly announced TQG contract will take place at the company's Bridgeport, Conn. facility. The TQG contract, worth $55 million, is for delivery before April 2009.
