U.S. oil, gas drilling hits 22-year high

WICHITA, Kan., March 27 (UPI) -- Oil and gas drilling in the United States has hit a 22-year high.

The year 2007 marked the most active year in oil and gas since 1990, the American Petroleum Institute said in its latest quarterly well report. An estimated all-time high of 30,525 wells were completed in 2007, the report said.

A resurgence in U.S. exploration began in 2000 and continued through 2007, the Wichita Eagle reported.

The report suggested that natural gas exploration still dominates U.S. exploration over oil.

Oil and gas exploration is continuing as MegaWest Energy Corp. has started steam injection and production operations at its Deerfield, Mo., project; New Frontier has given an incentive to produce Rocky Mountain gas reserves since it completed the Rex West pipeline; and Team Resources, based in Ventura, Calif., will soon begin producing oil and gas in Kansas through a limited partnership with Natural Gas & Oil Choice Development Fund.
