WASHINGTON, May 14 (UPI) -- Rising fuel and food costs are hitting Mongolia hard, with foreign investors exploiting the situation to pressure the country to open up its economy. WASHINGTON, May 14 (UPI) -- Climate change could disrupt U.S. energy supplies by seriously damaging key infrastructure in the country, experts testified Tuesday before Congress.

Russia, Egypt sign nuclear deal

NOVO-OGARYOVO, Russia, March 26 (UPI) -- Russia and Egypt signed a nuclear energy cooperation deal.
Sergei Kiriyenko, the head of Russia's nuclear energy agency, Rosatom, signed the agreement to work with Egyptian Energy Minister Ahmad Hassan Younis on the peaceful development and use of nuclear energy, the Hindustan Times reported.
A senior Kremlin aide said that nuclear cooperation with Egypt would be strictly within the nonproliferation obligations of Russia.
The deal, signed in Novo-Ogaryovo on Tuesday, now enables Russian firms to bid on construction projects in Egypt, including the first atomic power station in the Middle East.
The first project scheduled is a $1.5 billion reactor on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, though Cairo is planning to build three or four atomic power plants in the near future to meet rising energy demands.
Energy wasn't the only topic of discussion at the summit talks. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak also discussed a whole range of bilateral, regional and international issues, including West Asia and the Iranian nuclear issue. Mubarak underscored the need to resolve the vexed Iranian nuclear issue in context of Israel's nuclear weapons program.
