BEIJING, Jan. 14 (UPI) --
China's crude oil imports rose 12.4 percent in 2007 as the country sets records for consumption amid a booming economy.
That increase topped 2006's record and pushed imports to a record 163.17 million tons, according to customs.
Imports for 2006 were 138.8 million tons, an increase of 16.9 percent from the previous year. But exports fell 38.7 percent to 3.89 million tons last year, said the General Administration of Customs in Beijing.
Crude oil exports were valued at $79.77 billion, 20.1 percent more than a year earlier amid international oil price increases but that is because global prices increased about 57 percent over the last year, Shanghai Daily reported.
China imported 33.8 million tons of refined oil products in 2007, a decline of 7.1 percent from the previous year, although large producers increased imports last year during a fuel shortage.
The export of oil products increased, rising 25.6 percent to 15.51 million tons in 2007.© 2008 United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
