WASHINGTON, May 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence announced plans to integrate computer networks for seamless communication.
The Defense Department and ODNI signed an agreement establishing the integration of their computer networks for an interoperable streamlined communication of unclassified, secret and top secret information, ODNI reported.
John Grimes, assistant secretary of defense for networks and information integration, and Dale Meyerrose, ODNI chief information officer, said the agreement is an effort to enhance national security.
The announced networking deal incorporates Executive Order 13388, which established a greater sharing of terrorist-related information along with ODNI's information-sharing strategy.
The Defense Department called the agreement a critical step.
"The best way to improve information sharing between Department of Defense and the intelligence community is to develop solutions together," Grimes said in a statement.
