Saudis to expand telecom cable links

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 28 (UPI) -- India's Reliance Communications is investing $60 million in the expansion of undersea telecom cable service in Saudi Arabia.

The investment will put Saudi Arabia on Reliance's fiber-optic cable network and connect the Kingdom and other Gulf states with 53 nations worldwide.

Press Trust of India said Wednesday that the project calls for cable landing points at Jeddah and Alkhobar that will be part of the Falcon cable project, which is run by Reliance subsidiary Flag Telecom.

The project should be completed by October, PTI said.
