Kuwait Airways establishing world network

KUWAIT CITY, June 12 (UPI) -- A new satellite voice-and-data network is being established by Kuwait Airways to link about 130 locations worldwide.

Kuwait's Hasibat Information Technologies is running the project, which will be based on infrastructure provided by Taide, a subsidiary of Norway's Telenor.

"Taide is charged with designing, implementing, and eventually operating this communications network that will meet Kuwait Airways' most demanding reliability requirements," said Stefano Vittor, managing director for Taide.

Vittor said the system will run through Telenor's network hub at Nittedal, Norway, and will link remote stations through two separate access lines that automatically roll over from one to the other. It will provide secure Internet access and Internet Protocol telephony.

Initial roll-out will begin next month in Great Britain followed by Pakistan and Oman.
