Israel tech-worker demand still rising

TEL AVIV, Israel, June 12 (UPI) -- Demand for high-tech workers in Israel continued to rise in May 2006, climbing 13 percent above May 2005 figures, according to a survey released on Sunday.

The period of January to May 2006 also saw a 21-percent increase over the corresponding timeframe last year, according to a report in the Israeli business newspaper Globes.

The study, by Manpower Israel subsidiary Manpower Information Technology, calculates worker demand based on newspaper space and word count taken up by want ads in Israeli newspapers, the report said.

"The picture of demand for high-tech workers indicates a mature and responsible market, with slow but steady growth, belying predictions of a return of a bubble," Manpower Information Technology Chief Executive Officer Irit Padan said via the report.

"May 2006 figures show continued modest growth in demand for high-tech workers, a trend characteristic of the industry over the past year," Padan continued.

Ads for project managers and team leaders showed the biggest increase in demand, at 8.9 percent higher in May than in April, the report said.

Smaller increases were recorded in the fields of management, network management and support staff. Demand for software engineers fell for the month, while demand for programmers and hardware engineers held stable, according to the report.
