Rogers launches new instant messaging

TORONTO, June 6 (UPI) -- Canada telecom major Rogers Wireless launched an instant-messaging service Tuesday based on a mobile IM solution developed by Comverse.

The companies announced jointly that the IM system would enable Rogers' subscribers to use their cell phones to send messages via Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger.

"The addition of IM to our messaging mix provides a new revenue stream and an additional attraction which should help increase subscriber satisfaction and loyalty," said Vice President Upinder Saini.

U.S.-based Comverse added that the PC-like environment of its IM solution should encourage "immediate adoption and usage."
