MagnaChip opens new R&D center in Tokyo

SEOUL, June 6 (UPI) -- MagnaChip Semiconductor announced Monday it has established a Research and Development center in Tokyo for its Large Display Driver IC (DDI) business.

This marks the third overseas center, which follows centers in the United States and Japan in 2005, that focus on CMOS image sensors and small DDI.

According to MagnaChip, the new center will enable the company to "even more effectively target the broader Asian market" focusing on R&D of large TFT-LCD and OLED drivers ICs for larger applications such as TV and PC monitors.

"Having a strong, local R&D presence enables MagnaChip to more effectively work with our customers and reinforces our commitment to key strategic markets," said Seung Eun Kam, vice president of Large DDI Marketing in MagnaChip's Display Solutions Division. "We plan to reinforce our capabilities through additional hiring not only in design but also in marketing functions. We expect our latest R&D center will serve as an excellent platform to expand MagnaChip's market position in overseas large DDI markets."
