Greek telco Cosmoline expands VoIP network

ATHENS, Greece, June 2 (UPI) -- Greek telecom Cosmoline is overhauling its Voice over Internet Protocol network with new switching gear made by California's Veraz Networks.

Veraz said Friday that Cosmoline would replace eight of its current switches with a single Veraz ControlSwitch, which will expand a network that already carries 50 million usage minutes per month by 20,000 switch ports.

"We are now ready to deploy the softswitch to take our network to the next level," Cosmoline Technical Director Nikos Moutselos said in a news release. "We will be able to offer more services, while cutting our operating costs and eliminating extra expenses associated with the operation of a traditional TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) network."

Cosmoline is one of the oldest alternative telecom carriers in Greece and carries traffic between the country's major cities and internationally.
