GlobeTel launches Brazil ex-pat VoIP

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 2 (UPI) -- U.S. telecom provider GlobeTel Communications has launched a Voice over Internet Protocol communications system for the Brazil market.

VozBrasil.com is aimed primarily at the Brazilian immigrant community in the United States that is looking for a low-cost means of keeping in touch with the folks back home.

The rollout began two weeks ago in conjunction with GlobeTel's Brazilian partners in the northeast of the country, GlobeTel said Friday. The service will be eventually expanded nationwide.

Customers living in Brazil will be able to obtain a U.S. phone number and use it to connect to friends and family in the United States. The number can also be forwarded to a phone in Brazil so callers in the United States can avoid making a long-distance call.

GlobeTel Chief Executive Officer Timothy Huff said in a news release that his company moved into Brazil due to its large population, vibrant economy and tradition of close family ties.
