Orange seeks India long-distance license

NEW DELHI, May 31 (UPI) -- Orange Business Service plans to begin long-distance service in India as part of its overall expansion of Asia-Pacific revenues.

The France Telecom unit told reporters Wednesday it was planning to obtain a license for ISD (International Subscriber Dialing) and STD (Standard Trunk Dialing) and offer service in seven major cities by the end of July.

"India would be central to the company's growth plans in the Asia Pacific region and our next plan is to enter long distance telecom services," said OBS General Manager Tejinder Sekhon.

Press Trust India said Orange also would be adding Points of Presence next month in Hyderabad, Pune, Gurgaon and Kolkata by July 17 in addition to POP diversity in Mumbai and Bangalore.
