RadioShack unveils new site

FORT WORTH, Texas, May 22 (UPI) -- RadioShack Corporation and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children unveiled Monday an enhanced online home version of Streetsentz.com.

The site, part of a nationwide program they created in 2003, educates families on keeping children safe from abduction, exploitation, and violence.

With nearly 800,000 children reported missing each year, RadioShack has made it an initiative to raise awareness of the problem in its nearly 500,000 stores and surrounding communities, the company said.

In its on-going initiative, the electronics consumer company has also launched the ADAM fax poster program in 2003 with cooperation from the NCMEC and technology developed by ChoicePoint, in which each RadioShack store receives NCMEC faxes of high-risk missing children from their area to be placed on display.

Additionally, it distributes about 1 million free Child Id Kits in its stores.

And earlier this year, RadioShack launched a nationwide campaign to sign 1 million new Wireless AMBER Alerts subscribers in 2006 along with the wireless industry and NCMEC.

"Child abduction is a very real concern for any parent or guardian, and we know that many are looking for answers online," said Laura Moore, RadioShack's senior vice president of communications and public relations. "We set out to create a central hub with current and useful information on the issue so that parents and guardians can educate themselves and find the tools they need to talk to their children. With May 25 being National Missing Children's Day, there's no better time to start having these conversations."
