Nokia, Digita in mobile broadcast deal

ESPOO, Finland, May 11 (UPI) -- Nokia and Finnish radio and TV distributor Digita signed a mobile television platform supply contract Thursday.

The mobile group will provide Digita with its MBS 3.0 broadcast system, which will allow live television, radio and video clips to be distributed to mobile devices. Digita received its DVB-H mobile TV platform license from the Finnish government earlier this year.

"Nokia strongly believes that mobile TV based on open standards prevents fragmentation of the DVB-H market and enables a healthy competitive open market," Harri Männisto, director of multimedia at Nokia, said in a news release.

"Digita will utilize the open network model for the DVB-H network which will be in commercial use already this year. Our role is to be the network operator and offer capacity and services of the network to all service providers under equal, fair, and transparent terms," said Sirpa Ojala, managing director at Digita.
